"Why have I been denied fertility treatment?"

About: NHS Herts Valleys CCG Watford General Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I have suffered 4 miscarriages in the last 2 years. The RMU at UCH established that my fertility is low and rapidly declining and that IVF is my only hope over the next 11 months. So I was referred to St Albans City Hospital by my GP Dr Ganguly of Little Bushey Surgery.

I attended my first appointment at St Albans City Hospital Fertility Clinic last week only to be sent away in tears as because of my postcode I am not entitled to IVF.

My husband has a 7 year old daughter who lives with her mother full time. I have no living children and my husband has no other living children with me or anyone else.

It seems hugely unfair that we have come this far only to be told we cannot get the help that is available because we live under a trust that does not fund IVF simply to cut costs.

I visited my GP yesterday and asked him to appeal the decision however I want to make as much effort as possible.

I am a little lost and need some guidance, direction and most of all support. This is smashing me to pieces. The NICE guidelines state that all women under 40 should be entitled and receive 3 rounds of IVF. We have received no fertility treatment whatsoever. I am 38 years old. It feels like the NHS Trust is simply delaying all treatment in the hope that I become too old to become eligible for any kind of treatment or that my fertility is diminished to zero. We have had not IUI treatment, Preimplantation Genetic screening - nothing. We have been sent away and no further help offered. I could be completely infertile in 11 months time, which is now leading me down a dark void of depression, as nobody seems to care in the medical profession.

I look forward to hearing from you.

After waiting 11 months and suffering a further miscarriage I would have expected a response that was a little more comprehensive than the one above. It would have been less of an insult if you had not answered at all after nearly a year. You have ignored every point I have raised.
