"Men stood peeing into bottles!"

About: Northern General Hospital / General medicine Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust

(as the patient),

I had to go the AEU at Northern General Hospital due to a suspected unstable angina. The emergency doctor, ambulance crew and AEU were caring and understanding. The nurses and doctors on the AEU wards were good but the evening staff not so good, as some of them seemed to have a bit of an attitude problem. Having suspected unstable angina, I was told to tell the nurses when I had pain. I did, only to be told that I was not having a heart attack; apparently nothing could be done for angina. Patients all around me were escaping their beds as no one was around to check on them. I saw men stood peeing into bottles in full view, as well as men changing garments as things had leaked. I also saw men without pyjamas, which (as a woman) I found very embarrassing. If men and women are being put in same wards (which I do not agree with) then some dignity should be reserved for bath areas. Unfortunately, that’s the second bad experience I’ve had to endure. It made my whole experience worse off as I had vertigo. I did ask for treatment for it but didn’t receive any.
