Whilst food choice is reasonable it comes lukewarm having been prepared at Northern General and is a disgrace compared to DRI where I spent time last year. Rooms on E1 are so cramped that there is no privacy to conversations. Thank goodness that my overnight stays were on E2 where you are in isolation and I only spent 1 day on E1 whilst undergoing a procedure. Even so on arrival on E1 no member of staff asked if I was OK or needed any pain relief either on arrival or after I had the procedure and I had to ask for water. However staff were cheerful, hardworking and attended to calls promptly. I was very disappointed that an attempt was made to give an injection without any prior discussion and in my particular case there could be risks from such an injection and there seemed to be an automatic presumption of consent. Fortunately my consultant was very understanding and once appraised of my various concerns could not have been more helpful despite having to deal with a patient with a very strong will. I still do not understand the highly restrictive policy on visiting adopted by STH since more flexible visiting works perfectly well in other regions.
