I attended A&E on 2nd September 2014. I was x-rayed and diagnosed with a fractured arm. I subsequently was given an appointment to attend the fracture clinic two days later. I was seen promptly by a consultant who said that the fracture was impacted. The treatment for this type of fracture is just a sling. He said he would like to see me in 2 weeks for further x-ray and review to check bones were aligned. So far so good!! I then went to book this next visit. The girl looked at the piece of paper, didn't attempt to make a booking but said I would hear by post or phone (I wonder now whether she knew the situation). A week went by, I had heard nothing, so I rang outpatients - only to be told that my appointment was 6th November!! By this time my fracture would have set, rightly or wrongly! Despite several efforts by various people this appointment could not be brought forward. I had no choice but to go out of area because High Wycombe has similar long waiting list. Just as well I did because I have had an ultrasound, torn tendons found and urgent physio prescribed. What state would I have been in if I had just waited for my November appointment. :-((
