I came into A&E with my husband by ambulance early this morning and while, thankfully, it turned out to be a minor issue, it was a very frightening experience, made better by the attentive staff and the feeling of calm efficiency across the ward. The nurses were very pleasant, extremely professional but cracking a few jokes with us which we welcomed. They checked regularly on my husband and just seemed to be on top of things. The student doctor was again very friendly and professional and seemed to work well with the senior doctor who put our minds at ease very quickly. As it turned out to be something quite minor, my husband felt a little embarrassed about being there but we were never meant to feel like we had wasted anyone's time. In fact the doctor stressed a few times that we were very welcome to come back if we had any further cause for concern. We were seen straight-away (which i assume is a given with chest pains) and all in all we were there for about 4 hours - during that time though, we were always given information about how long things would take - to get test results back,to go for a chest x-ray etc Thankfully I haven;t had cause to visit many A&E's in my life but I am confident that this hospital is one of the 'good guys' Thank you to everyone.
