My mam was admitted to Sandwell Park Hospital (Mental Health Services, EMI) managed by the Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys Trust. She has severe dementia.
We have had many problems with her care from the nursing staff and the consultant. Initially I tried to resolve these problems at ´ground level´ with the staff and the ward manager, but to no avail. I then wrote to the chief executive of the trust, Con Egan, but I had no response. It was only after contact with Strategic Health Authority and the Community Health Council that I was then contacted by a member of the board of the trust who offered assistance.
Why should I have had to do all of this before someone listened to me...what is happening to the NHS? Its appalling that this unacceptable level of care should happen. My mam has been in the hospital now for 10 weeks and is in a much poorer condition than when she was admitted.
