"Friendly care at Ashton Under-Lyme Hospital"

About: Tameside General Hospital / Respiratory medicine

(as the patient),

I went to Ashton Under-Lyme Hospital with breathing problems. The staff were friendly, although the Sister at outpatients who took my details was a little bit bossy.

I drove but I recommend travelling by bus as the parking is terrible. It was also £3 for 2 hours - very expensive.

I checked in but my appointment was 20 minutes late.

In the waiting area I didn't like the programmes on the television. It was MTV, I am over 60 and didn't like it.

The female doctor was nice and explained everything. Said I had to have a chest x-ray, ECG and heart tracing. I was included in all decisions, everything was discussed.

I went back to the Hospital and had the treatment, everything was successful.

I am please to note you found most of the staff friendly, but sorry to hear one member of staff’s attitude came across as bossy. This has been picked up by the Matron for this area. With regard to waiting times, some patient appointments take longer than anticipated and clinics on some occasions do not run to time. Our usual practice, when this happens is to keep all patients constantly informed and give apologies. However, our objective is to try to ensure our clinics run to time. The Matron will try to vary the TV channels used during clinics.

The car parking facilities at Tameside General Hospital have come under increasing pressure as hospital activity and car ownership have increased. The Trust is making improvements to its car parking as part of its PFI development, which has started on site. A new 400 space Multi-Storey Car Park will open in January 2008 and car parking capacity on site will increase by 10% by 2011. The car parking charges are £1.60 for a 24 hour period.

I am sorry not to have responded sooner. However, Tameside General Hospital has only recently obtained the facility to reply to comments made on this website.
