While I do not question the quality of care given the poor staffing levels the discharge policy is dreadful in the last few years we have had relatives turning up at 5am in a taxi 11pm in an ambulance and even left in a room and forgotten overnight by ambulance crew. yesterday I rang to see how my relative is before visiting in the evening only to be told she was being discharged, I told them her husband was already in their hospital her daughter was away for three weeks and her care package had been cancelled her bedding had been thrown away and there was no food in the house as they both in hospital for the last two weeks. They said they would give her a sandwich and a small bottle of milk - so that was alright then. If I had not checked on my relative she would have been left in her house overnight with no heating no bed no food and no medication and probably would not have found till she was found at home over the weekend. Is this really what the NHS service is about I said she had not got to be discharged without informing the care company as there was no family about and the care company cannot reinstate care for a week. Nobody listens as long as they get them out of hospital its a disgrace.
