"Care for uncle by a compliment of caring and compassionate professionals"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / General Surgery (Ward 5)

(as a relative),

My uncle was admitted to Hairmyres Hospital at the beginning of July. He was admitted with an infection but had terminal cancer and his illness was progressing so he was entering the final journey of his life. Whilst we are all too quick to criticise, the care that was given by the nursing staff on the ward was nothing short of exceptional. Their care, compassion and sense of humour was appreciated by all and helped support the family through a sad and stressful time. All of the staff (including the students) claimed that they were only doing their job, however, they are a credit to the NHS and their professionalism has to be recognised by senior management and beyond.

Dear Heather242,

Thank you so much for taking the time to let us have your lovely comments about the care and compassion your Uncle received in Ward 9 at hairmyres in what, I know, is an extremely difficult time for you and your family.

I am very sorry for your loss but I am pleased that he received the best of care and compassion when he, and the family, needed it most.

I will ensure the whole ward team are made aware of your comments immediately.

Thank you once again for taking the time to do this.

very best wishes

David
