I was invited to attend for a flexible sigmoidoscopy at the new Endoscopy Department at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford at 8am one Tuesday. This new dept is a lovely mix of curves and pastel colours and I was welcomed by a friendly receptionist. I was taken to an en-suite room and prepared by a very courteous male staff nurse. We chatted and giggled all through the preparations for the camera.
When ready I was wheeled through to the clinical area, after being fully informed of all that was taking place. I was able to watch (if I wanted) all that was taking place. Slightly uncomfortable, but very interesting.
As I had no sedation I was able to go for a coffee (sandwiches were offered) whilst my report was being typed for me and my doctor to take away and read.
After entering the hospital it was a mere 2 and a bit hours later I left. This is quite amazing that all the hospital facilities are so closely linked in this department that procedures that used to take weeks are completed in a day. I thank Mr Jourdan and his excellent team for making the whole procedure a respectful and nearly pleasant visit..
"Excellent care during flexible sigmoidoscopy "
