Just a quick note to say that after dropping a pair of scissors onto my foot yesterday - and it rapidly turning into a very large swelling beneath the wound - I phoned 111 after panicking and was advised to attend the nearest accident and emergency.
I have a long history of mental health problems and self injury, and was terrified about how I would be able to cope with a wait in A+E.
However, on arrival I was seen within 5-10 minutes, had the wound cleaned, was sent for an x-ray and had a follow up consultation, all within the space of an hour.
All the staff were extremely pleasant and caring, in particular the nurse practitioner Marie, who was reassuring and very pleasant, and struck that elusive, but invalauable balance between professionalism and compassion. I felt that I was treated so well that I didnt have to ask for any arrangement to be made regarding my mental health issues.
My only negative point was there was no privacy at all during 'check-in'.
In and out within an hour including x-rays - you couldnt ask for a better service.
Thanks Marie and NHS! ! !
"Fantastic care at A&E"
