"Concerned about my husband's treatment"

About: Tameside General Hospital / Cardiology

(as a relative),

My husband is on Ward 31. He has been monitored with information sent through Wifi to CCU because of a drop in heart rate where upon he collapses. The doctors want to send him home view to having a 6 day tape as an outpatient.

In the meantime he continues and will probably continue to have these collapses at home. There seems to be no communication between different doctors that my husband has seen - they don't seem to sing from the same song sheet.

Why does my husband have to wait for this tape once he's home? Why can't my husband upon being discharged go straight to outpatients dept to have the monitor fitted to him therefore making it continuous care?

I am sorry that you are unhappy with the care your husband is receiving. This is certainly not the standard of care we expect for our patients. Without the details I am unable to establish where this process failed on this occasion.

Current practice is that 24hr heart reading tapes are undertaken on the ward but 6 days tapes are co-ordinated by the Cardiology department as an outpatient. The process is once they have received the request they then contact the patient with an appointment to attend outpatients.

To look at your specific issues you raise please can I request that you contact Lindsay Stewart, Deputy Director of Nursing on 0161 922 5352 or email Lindsay.Stewart@tgh.nhs.uk so that we can arrange for someone to meet with you and your husband to discuss his medical management and discharge plan.

Thank you
