What I liked
I was admitted for knee surgery in June 2007, the surgery was straightforward but 5 days after my dischargeI had to be readmitted because my knee was badly infected. I was admitted to one ward for my surgery and then another after the infection developed. The differences in staff attitude, working realtionship etc couldn't have been more different. After having such good care first time round I was shocked at the differences.
What could be improved
The doctor said my stitches had to come out because my knee was badly swollen. When the nurse came to do it she didn't put gel on her hands but i didn't worry too much because she would be wearing gloves. The nurse opened the gloves and one of them was perished so she couldn't use them. Instead of going for another pair she took my stitches out without wearing gloves.
Anything else?
I didn't feel able to say anything o her as her attitude was bad and she was responsible for my care at the time. I had thought about mentioning it to my surgeon at one of my follow-up appointments but bearing in mind I will have to have more surgery and no doubt will be admitted to the same ward I was worried she would find ou about it.
