"Poor support after my miscarriage"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I was pregnant and was referred to ward C32 three times as an outpatient, as I had been having some spotting and brown discharge. I was given a scan appointment for a week later to come back and sent home, after having an internal and being told everything looks fine.

I came back the week later and was told that the sac measured at 6 weeks when I should have been 10 weeks. I was told either my baby had died or I had my dates wrong, which I knew wasn't possible. They then took bloods from me and if these had been done the week before my miscarriage could already have been confirmed.

I came back a week later again to have my miscarriage confirmed and it had showed the sac had shrunk. I was spoken to by a nurse after who said I wouldn't pass any blood or clots even though the sac was still there and to go home and try again.

As I was getting ready for work the next day, I started heavily bleeding and passing clots. I ended up in A&E after passing blood in the middle of a car park through my clothes. I was put on C32 again and was faced with a very rude nurse, who demanded to see my pad sternly, while my parents and partner were in the room. She didn't say hello or introduction from her. I am a health care assistant myself and wouldn't ever do that to my patients.

The sac was stuck in the lining of my womb, which was why I was losing so much blood and may have had to go to theatre. The nurse who was rude earlier wanted me to walk while having a pain and said I didn't need a chair, I could walk.

I asked staff over and over if I should have had a natural miscarriage by now, as my baby died 4 weeks before I found out. They said yes, but did nothing about it. If I had known I was going to pass so much blood I would never have been so worried.

The staff on ward c32 made my first miscarriage a lot harder and I wouldn't wish it on anybody. I didn't know what to expect, but I didn't get any help either. I chose to go to A&E myself over this ward, as felt I would have got more help and would do the same again if needed.

As an update on my story the clinical lead who wrote on here I tried to contact her for a week by leaving her messages and even getting a different number and she never contacted me back. The ward manager of c32 has never replied to my letter which I am surprised about as she told me to contact her about what had happened.

I will be asking to be referred elsewhere next time I get pregnant as the staff on this ward have no consideration for the emotional situation ladies go through when having miscarriages and ectopic pregnancies as I have heard many bad stories from other people since it happened to me.
