My husband was admitted to hospital as he has bowel cancer and was having some difficulties. My husband was told he was having a scan and was taken down for it and laid down on the scan bed. The consultant then changed his mind whilst my husband was actually on the scan bed because he was due to have a scan 5 days later which was a more detailed scan. However, the hospital staff were aware of the forthcoming scan so why prep my husband and take him down to the scanner at all! ! ! ! !
He was returned to the ward and discharged an hour later. At 11. 00 am he was discharged but asked to wait to see the colo-rectal nurse. He waited 5 hours! It turned out however that the colo-rectal nurse wasn't even in the hospital at all and had no idea she was supposed to be speaking to my husband. The ward staff on the other hand has been instructed that the nurse did need to see him.
My husband has come home a different person, he is now depressed and worried that the lack of communication, constant changing around of what's going on and uncoordinated approach will mean he won't have a positive outcome to his cancer.
If anybody actually reads this from the hospital does read this please don't trot out the "contact the complaints department' because it doesn't appear to make any difference to how the hospital is run.
