Excellent clinical consultation (Urology) spoilt by poor administration and IT backup.
Appointment letter mentioned only "Gi Centre". As I was expecting a urology clinic appointment following investigations as I was concened at an appointment at a gastro intestinal clinic, had something else been discovered? No, it appeared that administration could not be troubled to put proper details on the appointment letter. The consultant himself found it confusing that a urology clinic was being held in the GI centre.
The consultant was first class but his task was seriously affected by the very slow running of his computer terminal. Listening to his conversation with the hospital's IT "helpdesk" it was obvious that they had little concern for the effect that their poor service had on the the patient (me). In spite of the consultant giving his name, the location of the clinic, the asset number of the computer, they needed the room number. This is, of course, only on the outside of the door, so to help the consultant I opened the door to get this.
It is a great pity that the clinical staff do not get better support and that the support staff fail in the terms of customer awareness.
