Yesterday my father was upset, he was told he's anaemic by his GP and was sent a letter with an appointment for Trafford General. He told me the appointment was for an operation but when we arrived we realised that it was only for tests. The nurse said "don't you know why you're here?"
It could have been that my father misread the letter about the appointment; I didn't get a chance to have a look at it before the appointment but when I did see it I didn't really understand what it was he was having done because I didn't know what the department name meant. It had a fancy title!
I've seen this happen to others at hospital - they don't really understand what is going to happen.
I think less medical jargon should be used and that medical language should be simplified for patients.
