"Unhappy with treatment in A&E"

Admitted to A&E after 999 call for pains in chest. Ambulance crew and paramedics were wonderful and attentive.

Being disabled and needing wheelchair which I had to leave at home. In A&E, I needed a glass of water and upon ringing the call bell, I was completely ignored whilst staff walked past me and sat at the nurses station (where I was clearly visible) laughing and joking. When eventually someone came I was told to go and get the jug and half full cup of water from the previous patient. Bearing in mind I am disabled! This is the worst and most appalling treatment for any patient and ought to be addressed urgently.

I have been to other hospitals and have always been treated with respect and care. Never before have I come across the way I was treated before. I hope the hospital board look into this and make sure that patients are treated as humans. Even animals get better treatment.

I must add that the staff on Roskear Ward (bay A) were the exact opposite and were true nurses. Staff Nurse Deborah stood out as exceptional as did Mark Salisbury and the Agency worker Michael was always looking in to see if he could be of help.

This was the kind of nursing staff that is required in A&E. I was admitted with pneumonia and pleaurasy.
