I asked for help and received an intimidating 1 hour telephone interview where no-one listened. When I said their method frightened me, in what ever the mental state is that I was in (and now feel even deeper into), I was given a potential 8 weeks meetings with a counsellor. The counsellor said there were not enough resources for me, and felt I had actually gone further into my depression. We both agreed, after I begged for help, that it wouldn't be good for me to be left for 3 months before being seen. So the counsellor's superiors were contacted, and yesterday I had my first meeting with the exact same service!
I dreaded going to each week, as I always left deflated and in a deeper depression than the day before. The day of each session started with the dread of having to go. I felt that because I don't tick all their tick boxes, as I had to leave as the room, and the interviewer felt so oppressive to me, I was told come back if you want.
I would have thought that anyone would appreciate that a desperate mental illness sufferer would be scared to self inflict the anxiety of forcing ones self into a desperate situation. I feel that I can't reach the hoops to jump through or tick all the tick boxes. I feel that I have been cast out and abandoned. The staff need to learn to listen, because when you are suffering from mental health illness and someone fails in listening to what is worrying you, and instead presume they know everything and refuse to learn, I feel my only way of getting the help I need is commit suicide, self harm or attempt to attack or seriously hurt someone.
