I am posting this because I read Duffy's experience. My mother suffered a stroke 3 months ago. She had been having TIAs (transient ischemic attack) and in spite of being taken to hospital, she was sent home without a scan. She did not recover her vision. Her own GP got the date of a scan brought forward, but before it was done my mother suffered a massive stroke. Her treatment on the stroke unit was not very good. Although nurses were helping patients to feed, it was obviously something they did not enjoy. My mother was simply written off by the staff. I asked to speak to the consultant and had to submit a complaint that I had been given a chance to speak to him. I finally received an appt the day before they decided hurriedly to discharge my mother after just 5 weeks. I was working on that day and was not offered an alternative date. Against my wishes and my mother's, my siblings shoved her into a nursing home. She was not offered any rehabilitation. She has survived, but her condition is poor owing to lack of care and rehabilitation.
