"The broken finger.."

About: Pinderfields General Hospital

I had an accident at work and hurt my hand, just thought I'd sprained it and left it over a week until i went for any help as I thought 'I'll just get on with it' and the bruising and swelling will go down..well, it didn't and so I went to Pinderfields hospital on Sunday..the staff were second to none..from the receptionist to the surgeon the following day, they were all so kind and very professional. I was told exactly what had happened to me, shown the results of x-rays, not talked to as though I was a child, very organised and gentle with the three breaks in my finger that had occurred (ouch!) and dealt with quickly and safely. I cannot rate this treatment of myself highly enough, after my appointment at the Hand Therapy Unit and subsequent theatre visit I was taken to the recovery area and given a drink and a sandwich (after not eating/drinking for nearly ten hours it was delicious!) and checked on every ten minutes or so by a very kind nurse, who couldn't help me enough. An appointment was made for me to see the Occupational Therapist the same day, to save me from coming back and forth, where I had my fingers put in a made to measure splint (with fastenings in a choice of colours I may add!) and guided through the gentle exercises I must do and then a follow up examination & further x-rays appointment was made for the following week. You know, everyone likes to complain, especially about our NHS, but we don't make time to praise the services of others that we take for granted and i, for one, am very proud that, when i am worrying and in pain and discomfort, i can just walk through those hospital doors and know, for sure, that I will be cared for...Thank you.
