"New born which had cord around its neck"

About: Lister Hospital

Our first child was born at the Lister on 28/0414 My partner went into to be induced on 27/04/14. On the babies due date. My partner in total was roughly in labour for 36 hours in that time she has been on initially on the Dacre Ward followed by the consultant lead unit in the delivery suite and now to the Gloucester award. I have to put my hand on heart and say I cannot praise the hospital and staff enough during the time we have spent at the hospital . Yes it can get a bit busy on Dacre Ward but from when we arrived the staff were friendly and really helpful the hospital was clean and tidy and my partner was always being monitored. It was on this ward that the midwives made the decision to transfer my partner to the consultancy lead unit. Upon attending this unit we we're put in our own room given a midwife who never left my partners side and was truly amazing throughout and a team of staff ranging from consultants to doctors anaesthetists to all different levels of midwives who were all friendly and extremely knowledgable the unit was spotless. This type of care and level of treatment you don't even get when you go private and I can speak from experience as I have been to Harley street in the last few years for an unrelated matter and I would personally class the Lister better. The most important thing I would say is the direct communication and joint decision making you have whilst you are there. This proved to be absolutely crucial in my partners case after 24 phones labour and numerous drips my partner through no fault of her own just wasn't fully dilating and the babies blood oxygen level was dropping. After giving my partner every opportunity to have the natural birth she wanted it was decided by a whole team of professionals that it looked as though the babies cord was wrapped around his neck. So the head midwives then explained to my partner was going to happen an a c section was the chosen option and performed in a matter of minutes. The whole team were correct and as a result of their professionalism and know how me and my partner have a healthy 7lb 11oz baby boy who wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for all the amazing staff involved. So me and my partner would like to thank each individual one if it wasn't for you our little boy wouldn't be here today. Thank you so much! I mustn't forget to mention the aftercare received on the Gloucester award after the birth which again was superb.

Thank you so much for taking the time to feed back your experience following the birth of your baby boy at the Lister recently. It sounds like a really worrying time for both you and your partner, but we were so pleased to learn that despite all the challenges, your son was born safely. We'll now make sure that the maternity team, especially those on Dacre and Gloucester wards, get to read your kind words. All that's left is to wish you and your newly expanded family every happiness for the future.
