My mother has been diagnosed as having heart failure. She waited 6 weeks for referral letter from GP to Royal Gwent Newport. I have been told that the referral letter goes to a cardiac consultant, who then takes on the patient case.
I have been trying to chase the appointment for an echo cardio gram. I have contacted the diagnostic who deals with appointments, who has not received the echo form from the cardiologist. This means they cannot book the appointment for my mother, which would probably then get the Consultants to see her quicker depending on the severity of heart failure my mother is in.
We are still waiting on the appointment with Consultant, only to be told that there is a 26 week wait. I have been informed that this should be an urgent referral. However, when I have rang the cardiologist secretary to chase up both appointments, I had no success.
How long should an urgent appointment take, when you have been informed that your parent is in heart failure? Surely this should be high priority. What will it take before my mother is seen?
