Due to Milton Keynes General not being registered to carry out Radioactive-Iodine treatment I was referred to Northampton General. At first I was happy with the service I received. But that changed today. With the weather being bad I expected some kind of delay but not as bad as it was...and the lack of communication was awful . After an hour of waiting we asked how much longer we had to wait...i was then told at that point that it would be about 5 more minutes, and the explanation for the delay was 'only one doctor running 2 clinics', which we were not told on arrival. Had we been told this on arrival we would've been more prepared for the hour long wait - which in fact turned out to be for one measley pill. What a waste of a morning for myself and my mother (who incidentally had taken the day off work to take me there as I do not drive). This I have to say is the worst waiting time I've encountered for an out-patient apppointment!

We would like to apologise for the lack of communication on the day in question and thank you for your useful observationwhich hsa led to a change of practice which will benefit patients in a similar situation in the future.

After discussion we have decided that clinic Nurses will be responsible for informing patients of delays in future.

Prior to administration of the tablet ,the visit would have consisted of a consultation with the Doctor to establish suitability for proceeding with the treatment, provision of written and verbal guidance about restrictions on contact with others and blood tests following the capsule and the Physicist being confident that this was understood and would be complied with, as well as administration of the capsule in compliance with radiation regulations.
