"The nurses did not seem to be ..."

About: Lister Hospital

(as a relative),

Anything else?

The nurses did not seem to be particularly interested in the welfare of the old people on the ward. My grandfather (91) was left sitting on his commode for 15 minutes, until the nurses had finished their gossiping before he could get back into bed. The nurses claimed they were 'handing over' to the new shift, but i don't think talking about their husband's gum problems and what they were doing over Xmas really counts as a useful hand over the the new shift of staff. They were disinterested in the patients, and treated visitors like they were a source of annoyance, rather than a source of comfort to the patients.

We're sorry that this was your experience of the care provided by our staff. We would always encourage anyone with similar concerns to talk with the sister in charge of the ward, or to one of our duty matrons if a ward sister is not available. We can understand that some may be reluctant to do this, but without your feedback we cannot put things right at the time that patients are receiving their care. In most cases we find that when tackled promptly like this, such issues can be resolved quickly to the satisfaction of all involved.
