I was admitted to the day surgery ward on 1st April to have my gallbladder removed. Once the operation started in was discovered that my gallbladder was in much worse condition than had been anticipated and I needed to have a repair done on my duodenum, This resulted in me having to stay in hospital for 4 days. While in both day surgery and on Beech B wards I could not fault the service given to me. Soon after coming round I was told the op had been bigger than planned and informed I would have to stay in, over the next couple of hours I was visited by the consultant and twice by the registrar to explain exactly what had happened. They were both eager to speak to my husband to ensure he also understood what had happened, the consultant visited during visiting time the next day to talk to my husband. While I can not fault the care given by all staff involved during my stay I would say that perhaps more staff would reduce the pressure on existing staff.
