"My mother (93) is a celiac and ..."

About: Wycombe Hospital

(as a relative),

What could be improved

My mother (93) is a celiac and it was apparent that whilst a gluten free diet was said to be available this caused much confusion to staff. For tea on most days only sandwiches were provided, using ordinary bread, which as the hospital should know she could not eat. On one day she was given a meal left over from lunch which she found rather unpleasant.

To contact my mother by phone was impossible as she had not subscribed to Patientline. When recently in Stoke Mandeville the Ward had a mobile phone, the number of which was given to relatives, and this was handed to her when she received a call. I would propose this be a practice adopted at Wycombe.

I collected my mother from the Discharge Ward (Ward 10) which I found to be bleak and unattractive. An empty bay in a normal busy ward which seemed full of clutter and to my mind was not at all comforting. It could easily be brightened up and tidied, thus cheering up those patients about to go home.

Parking at Wycombe is a nightmare. Often I have to park in the town centre when visiting the hospital. On this occasion, when collecting my mother, I had to double park outside the Maternity Ward (below Ward 10) and this was not satisfactory for anyone, let alone myself. Could not dedicated short stay spaces be made available for those collecting discharge patients?

My mother was admitted to EMC at about 11.00 pm. She was still on a trolley when I visited the following morning and up to the time she was found a bed on a ward in the afternoon. This hopefully could be improved.
