What was initially planned as a keyhole gallbladder removal was converted into open surgery, meaning that I ended up spending 3 nights on this mainly day-case unit. The level of information I received both pre- and post-operatively, from the surgical, anaesthetist and nursing teams was so very reassuring, as I'd never had an operation before (I'm 68). Post operative nursing care was first class - both efficient and professional, but also compassionate and friendly - hitting exactly the right notes for me. I was mainly cared for by one individual on the day shift, which I much appreciated. The ward was really clean and pleasant, and even the food was much better than expected and the ancillary staff were also very pleasant. I've now been at home six days and am making very good progress. I feel confident in coping with my recovery - all of which has been enhanced by the first class care and level of information. Thank you very much to everyone involved.
