At my first appointment, last August, my consultant explained clearly what my options were. His friendly, professional manner gave me the confidence to go ahead with an operation to repair a prolapsed womb and bladder and other damage caused 40/50 years ago during pregnancy.. A series of scans and tests were carried out by very friendly, professional members of your team. When the day of the operation arrived in August last year, I knew I was in good hands and had no fear. I woke up in Champneys Ward, where I was looked after as though I was royalty. The anaesthetic didn't make me sick as it had 30 years previously and I had no real pain. The consultant himself checked on me every day, as did members of his team. Quite honestly, I would go back again next week and have it done again with no hesitation! Last week I went back to the hospital, to be checked again and I was delighted to be able to tell my consultant that the my stress incontinence had completely disappeared. The work he had done was still fine. From my point of view, my operation was a complete success, getting rid of the uncomfortable symptoms I had been experiencing. Everything has been put back in place and securely attached and the vagina is tighter than it has been since the birth of our first child. I would not have hesitated to agree to the operation had I known: - how well I would be looked after - that the result would be so amazing - that anaesthetics are so much safer there days - that I would have no pain at all - that I would recover so quickly. I could not have had better treatment had I been a private patient! Thank you to all at St Georges - and especially the consultant and the Urogynaecology and Female Pelvic Medicine & ReconstructiveTeam.
