Had my tonsils out in November 2013. All went well, everyone was very nice. Unfortunately, I haemorrhaged a week or after being discharged, and while the emergency response was somewhat scary, the ambulance crew were excellent as well as the staff at the hospital who tended to me on my arrival. The only concern I might have would be that I wasn't adequately prepared for the recovery time. The haemorrhage probably didn't help, but everyone I spoke to said I should be in pretty good shape after a couple of weeks, and it was more like a month. My tonsils were very scarred, maybe that makes a difference to the recovery time, I don't know. It was a good three months before I was able to swallow food normally.
