My name is Steve Mayor, I am 56 years of age and live in Cheshire. I was diagnosed with Complex Sleep Apnoea (Obstructive and Central) more than two years ago and have been treated with 'C.P.A.P.' since that time. Initially, my treatment was provided by a different NHS Foundation Trust, for the purposes of this review, it is probably 'for the best' that it should remain nameless... However, I am fortunate in also being on the the patient list of a Neurological Consultant who works at both Warrington and Aintree Hospitals and I have consultations with regarding extreme headaches from which I suffer. Having heard of my dreadful experiences with the 'other' Health Authority, he very kindly referred me to the Sleep Medicine Department at Aintree University Hospital where I initially was seen by two consultants, both of whom have referred me for overnight sleep studies to the unit at Aintree. The two overnight sleep study experiences I have had, together with several and ongoing follow-up consultant appointments there, have been exceptional. I have nothing but praise for the superb and ultra modern facilities, together with all the Sleep Medicine Department nurses and staff, who really are as professional and courteous as can be imagined and easily exceed all patient expectations. Somewhat surprisingly, I have recently read on this 'forum' that it seems that some other Aintree Hospital Sleep Clinic patients appear to have had experiences which do not match those of my own. All descriptions of "good and bad", "better or worse" and other comparative comments can only truly carry any credence when compared to other experiences, in this case, other Health Authorities. Whilst everyone is entitled to and is quite correctly allowed to express their personal views, having been a part of some truly terrible levels of patient care with the other aforementioned unnamed NHS Trust, I can speak with total confidence when I say that the levels of patient care offered at Aintree University Hospital are as good as it gets. Finally, I should like to respectfully request that these comments are passed on to the individuals within the Sleep Medicine Division at Aintree, who in my opinion, offer such a great service and deserve much praise and gratitude for the job they do. Many thanks indeed.
