I initially went to my GP on Monday 27th Jan with chest pains on exertion. and he gave me some medication and referred me to the Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic in North Devon District Hospital where I saw a Consultant on Monday 3rd Feb, one week later. He informed me that I needed an angiogram and refrerred me to RD&E hospital. I had the angiogram on Wednesday 26th Feb and was kept on Taw ward as my condition was causing concern and I needed an urgent angioplasty which I had on Friday 28th Feb. From the initial GP consultation to the angioplasty took only four and a half weeks. Throughout the time on Taw Ward I was treated with courtesy and respect. All the staff were very efficient and worked very well as a team but also gave time to look after the personal needs of all the patients and sought to ensure that they were comfortable and well cared for. They had a wonderful sense of humour and the atmosphere of the ward was bright and cheery. Another doctor did my angiogram and he and his staff explained my situation very well and the need to stay on the ward. I really appreciated this as I am a Biology teacher and so I was asking questions along the way that were answered very professionally. A third doctor performed the angioplasty and throughout I was asked if I was OK and the procedure was very well explained to me. The staff in the Lab worked very efficiently as a team and I could not fault the care they gave me. They also explained to me the X-rays on the screen which showed the narrowing of the LAD and the subsequent views of the blood flow with the stents in place. I really appreciated the time he took to do this. I stayed on the ward until Saturday morning. Throughout my time at the hospital I was very happy, I felt safe and in good hands. I have no complaints at all. I would like to thank all the staff on Taw Ward for an amazing experience that literally saved my life.
