Experience in A & E at Wishaw General Hospital. My elderly mother was admitted to A & E. She has dementia and was left lying on a bed screaming for 5 hours before being xrayed and they discovered she had a severely broken right femur. She was unable to say that she was in pain but the continuous screaming should have indicated something was not right.
We asked for pain relief for hours and she was eventually given morphine at 10pm - 8 hours after being admitted. She is incontinent and I had to ask twice for her pad to be changed. I am shocked and upset at the length of time my mum lay in bed and unhelpful attitude of the staff we met when requesting her pad to be changed.
I found that staff we encountered seemed to be disinterested and it certainly did not feel like patient centred care.
