"We were always confident that dad was in good hands"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Medicine for the Older Adult (wards 9-11)

(as a relative),

Our elderly dad was in ward 9 for five weeks.

He received outstanding care from every member of the large team of doctors and nurses working with Mr Akhtar.

The team are highly competent professionals who tried everything to make dad better ,and ,just as importantly ,they are very kind and caring people who took the time to get to know dad and his family .They understood his great sense of humour ,even when very sick, and also his love of music.

Nurses provided a radio to soothe him when he was confused and distressed and even joined in his singing !

They always took time to communicate well and answer our many questions . Doctors phoned late in the evening to provide much valued updates when we were very concerned about dad .

Every one of the ward 9 team made a very difficult and emotional situation much easier for us  . We were always confident that dad was in good hands

When dad moved to palliative care and there was always one of us with him in his room ,we were shown great kindness , given cups of tea and always encouraged to seek nurses or doctors at any time we felt the need

They were so kind and respectful when dad passed away

We shall always remember the excellent care and attention which dad received from this wonderful team . Such a fine example of the benefits of our NHS
