"Good staff but troubles with shared rooms"

About: Maternity Care / Postnatal (Ward 22)

(as a service user),

Things that need addressing

- Once given birth I feel a shared room is horrendous. Noisy, no privacy, loads of families visit. Parents playing music at all hours.

- Shared rooms / shared toilet terrible. Visitors using.

- No confidentiality when speaking to professional as shared room.

- My husband had to sleep on floor. No room for chair, no chair.

- visiting times issues. In shared room it so so busy. As a mum who just gave birth & want to sleep I can't. Other families in & out at all times. Loads of people in and out. I do not think this is great for hygiene.

Staff are excellent.

They listen to your needs

- if health concerns they listen

- if looking for advice and support they had excellent knowledge and understanding.

Need to develop.

- Take time to explain medical information to parents as they not medically trained and only need a little of your time to explain Why? What? Next steps?

Only thing is passing on communication from some staff to paediatric team. Clear up there communication for mum and baby need to be done at same time. So communication is not missed.
