My optician noticed signs of high cholesterol during an eye examination and suggested I get it checked. I immediately got an appointment to get my bloods done which showed high cholesterol and my sugars suggested I was in the pre diabetes range.
I had a phone call from the nurse making suggestions to my diet and exercise but also asked if I’d like to consider attending a diabetes prevention clinic online. It sounded worthwhile so I agreed.
It was really informative, with a great coach, Peter, presenting each week. It was from Mar to Dec, starting with weekly, one hour, Teams calls. Later this moved to fortnight and then monthly.
Each week we emailed Peter our weight and our steps. This kept me motivated to do well. It wasn’t just about reducing sugars but about all foods e.g. carbs, fats, sugars, fibre. As well as exercise, motivation, avoiding triggers.
It was really informative and Peter was a great coach explaining everything. The handbook we received is very useful and I use to refresh my learning.
The other members online were great too and made you feel part of a group where you could share experiences. Having the calls, made you more accountable and forced you to take part.
It was great at the end to look back at what you had achieved, reducing blood sugars to a normal range and losing weight. Would highly recommend!
