I was admitted to DGRI B3 due to abdominal pains, nausea, vomiting and generally unwell. Was given pain relief and anti-sickness, which helped. I was doubled up without being informed of it, or even asked, this didn't help how I was feeling or how my mental health was.
I was fasted to go for MRCP, didn't happen, then fasted a 2nd day and didn't happen again, was fasted a 3rd day and not taken for MRCP, only to find out it hadn't been requested nor had the ultrasound. Eventually was requested after 4 days, had to fast again to get the MRCP.
Whilst in B3 I was prescribed fluids for pancreatitis and I also had jaundice, and Gallbladder issues, when they run out took hours to get more up, had to keep asking staff, had no vital signs done in a very long period even though I was on fluids with pancreatitis, nausea and jaundice. Had to continuously ask for pain relief before being given it.
Some nurses didn't listen to my concerns over sleeping, took days to get a nurse to listen to my concerns over my care and sleeping due to undiagnosed PTSD while in the double up. The double up criteria should take into consideration that a patient is unwell on fluids, being sick and their mental health, I understand the need to double up due to hospital pressures, patient should be asedk and consulted first, be given the right to agree.
The healthcare support workers are amazing, would do anything to help explained things that was going on, took the time to speak to patients, they were a lot more helpful with getting information about my care than the nurses, I believe that the healthcares are under valued
