"Unconditional love, respect and care"

About: Gartnavel General Hospital / Older Adult Rehabilitation Wards (Ward 2A, 6A, 6C, 8A & 8C)

(as a relative),

My beautiful nana was cared for in ward 2A Gartnavel Hospital and passed with the upmost dignity and respect received by all the staff in Gartnavel hospital. Her needs and those of her family, were met with tolerance, consideration, respect, love, empathy and consistency.

Trying to find the words to convey our heartfelt gratitude for nana's care and to encapsulate the care nana received is a hard job will never suffice. The staff, working alongside Dr. Oomen and it was extremely evident there was great respect for one another and their ambition was, getting it right for everyone in their care.

Under very strenuous circumstances the staff pulled together, supporting one another and showed up in the form of a family!  All staff from nurses, support staff, physiotherapist, domestic staff, night shift staff, they went above and beyond the call of duty in so many ways. Nothing was a problem and done with diligence and smile.

Nana never felt like a burden and was made to feel special. She voiced the staff were all like a family to her. Whilst Nana’s admission a member of family were allowed to stay and a bed was provided for overnight. We are a big family and there was always one, if not many, visiting around the clock. Tea and some hot toast was offered consistently and we were sometimes woke by the singing of Cathy the domestic staff coming in to clean.

The unconditional love, respect and care she and the family experienced was exceptional. She spoke so highly of the care she received and thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie!

The staff of Ward 2A  can be assured they will have another angel watching over them and we as a family will be indebted to you all. What a team! You are all very special people and make a huge difference to people who are vulnerable and in need of care, love, respect and dignity. Worth their weight in gold!

Take care and god bless you all.

Dear sierragz54

Thank you for taking the time to share such a deeply moving and heartfelt tribute to the care your nana received on Ward 2A at Gartnavel Hospital. We are truly sorry for your loss and extend our sincere condolences to you and your family at this very difficult time.

It is incredibly meaningful to hear that your nana was cared for with such dignity, compassion and respect, and that her needs — and those of your family — were met with empathy, consistency and genuine kindness. Your words paint a powerful picture of a team who worked together with warmth and dedication, and who clearly made your nana feel valued, comforted and never a burden.

We are especially grateful that you have recognised the collective efforts of the entire Ward 2A team, including nurses, support staff, physiotherapists, domestic and night staff, and Dr Oomen. The sense of mutual respect, teamwork and shared purpose you describe is exactly what we strive for, even in the most challenging circumstances. Your reflections on the way staff supported one another and welcomed your family as part of the ward community are deeply touching.

We will ensure that your beautiful feedback is shared with everyone involved, including Cathy and the wider Ward 2A team. Knowing the lasting impact they have made on your nana and your family will mean more to them than words can express.

Thank you again for sharing your experience and for taking the time to honour the care your nana received. She will be remembered with great affection, and your family’s gratitude will not be forgotten.

Kind regards

Kevin
