"Food in Craigavon Hospital wards"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / Haematology ward – ward 5

(as the patient),

Although  the care i received  in my 6 months  stay in Hamatology  ward  was excellent  I would like to  bring  your  attention  to  the daily  food  menu  which  was the same  every week  for  the whole  of my stay.  I am unable  to  eat spicy  foods  and a lot  of  items on the menu  were  spicy.  I would  like to have seen  a greater variety  and some  "plain options " For instance  for  the whole  six months  there was 2 types of pudding  chocolate  sponge /custard or apple  pie /custard and two  types of fruit  apple  or banana.

As maybe  you  can imagine  with such  a  long stay  in hospital  your  days  are very  long with the same  routine  and meal times  become  they  highlight  of your day. Changing  the menu  on maybe  a two  weekly  basis  and more variety  with some  plain food eg Irish stew or battered  fish and chips /potatoes etc would  make such a difference. Also more  of variety  of desserts  and  soups  instead  of the same  two  of each every  day.

Otherwise  my care was excellent  and the staff  very  caring  and  understanding and I can never  thank  them  enough

Hello starwf95

Thank you for posting about your experience in Craigavon Area Hospital we do welcome all feedback to help us improve the service we offer. It’s is good to hear that the care you received in the Haematology Ward was excellent.

However I am sorry you were disappointed with the daily food menu/options. I will pass your comments to the Catering Team. Patient menus are reviewed regularly and feedback is taken into consideration as part of the review process.

It is planned to introduce a two-week cyclical menu at Craigavon Area Hospital from 3rd February. The menu choices will focus on nutritious and popular choices that aim to support healing and provide patient satisfaction.

I wish you a speedy recovery
