About: Sidwell Street Clinic / Exeter Sexual Health

(as a service user),

This text came out of the blue. I was not warned it would be sent. Why would I put personal details into a link on an unknown website. You could be anyone.

I imagine this is probably legitimately from the Sidwell Street Clinic, but as I have observed two different staff leave their computers unlocked and unattended, I worry there is a risk you could have been hacked.

You are very good at what you do and very professional, but please educate yourselves about cyber risks.

Hi scutumyq96,

Many thanks for sharing your concerns via our Care Opinion form. We have reviewed them in service.

Please accept our apologies for any confusion or distress caused by the SMS you received requesting feedback from your visit. We send this message out to all patients attending our in-person services if their record contains documented consent to communication via SMS. The intention of the message to request feedback is to ensure that all our patients have a clear route to share their thoughts about our service (positive/negative) following their visit. We review all our Care Opinion feedback daily, and use it to inform service development. We have tried to be as clear as we can in the messaging (both in the SMS and linked Care Opinion site) about this process, and would really appreciate further feedback from you if you think we can do something differently in future to alleviate concern about the legitimacy of the request. If you would like to contact me directly to discuss this (in confidence), please email: rduh.shexeteradmin@nhs.net with your name and date of birth and reference this Care Opinion feedback story.

We completely agree with your feedback about unlocked clinical computers being left unattended in our service. Please be reassured that our staff receive mandatory training in Information Governance and Data Protection annually. We have sent a reminder out to all staff about the need to lock devices when they are not in use in any clinical areas, in line with this regular training that they receive.

I hope you agree that the feedback you have provided has provided us with a valuable opportunity to review what we do and make appropriate changes. We do appreciate you taking the time to let us know your thoughts about the service - thank you.

Best wishes,

April Brooks

Lead Nurse
