"Mirrors in the accessible toilets"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France

(as a service user),

Mirrors in all the accessible toilets that I have been in at this site are situated at a height that is only suitable for non-wheelchair users, and I am unable to view the mirror at all as it is too high up.

This constitutes discrimination and is unlawful under the Equality Act 2010 which prohibits the provision of inferior services to individuals with disabilities.

Do you think people who use a wheelchair have no right to check or care about their appearance?

Maybe you could consider involving some actual people with disabilities when planning the design of facilities for our use.

Dear Cafexn39,

Thank you for taking the time to feedback on your recent experience at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. Firstly, I would like to apologise for your experience. We always aim to ensure that all of our patients and visitors have the best possible experience when attending the site and that the infrastructure of the site is suitable for all users.

I note the content of your feedback and have subsequently discussed this with our Estates Team based on the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh site. I can confirm that as a result of your feedback the team will carry out a review of all accessible toilet facilities. Where there are no full-length mirrors in place the team will look to have these installed where it is possible to do so. The review will be carried out in the coming week with applicable work planned in due course.

I would like to thank you for taking the time to feedback on your experience.
