My father has suffered from vascular dementia for the past 3 years. In the time he received social care, to a level, whilst at home. This needed to be supplemented by private social care as the local authority could not provide the care that was needed.
Following various assessments where the local council recognised that my father was needing permanent care, he stayed at home for as long as he could until, sadly, he needed to be moved as he was a risk to his own health.
For five months now he has been in care, with all benefits stopped and no financial support in any capacity. He is entitled to personal care but is not even getting that. There has been no confirmation of financial award, no confirmation of when he might be given the financial assistance and sadly he has been left in the position of paying privately for all this time.
I feel disgusted. Let down. Above all, I feel terribly for my father who, having contributed in all his working years is now left helpless by the local authority.
In my view, it is absolutely appalling and disgusting.
