"Made me feel as if I was an inconvenience"

About: Golden Jubilee National Hospital / Cardiac Surgery

(as the patient),

I was admitted to Golden Jubilee Hospital for heart valve surgery in October 2025 after surgery I spent time in ICU. The care I received in there was amazing.

I was then moved to HDU and my experience in there was terrible. I was in so much pain I had to keep asking for pain relief. I know these type of wards are busy but when they eventually answered my buzzer I was told by a nurse that my nurse was busy with another patient. I asked if I could sit up on the chair as my lungs had collapsed and I was finding it difficult to breath only to be told no, I had to stay in bed. This made me feel as if I was an inconvenience to them by asking for things to help me.

Next day I said to a nurse that I felt my catheter was passing. They told me no it's not and left my room and lo and behold, yes it was. When they removed the catheter I asked to use the toilet in my room only to be told by said nurse no, we don't use the toilets, and proceeded to bring me a commode in and never closed the curtain properly. I was feeling very neglected at this point, I just wanted to leave this ward at this point. I felt is was so unprofessional to say the least.

I then went to 3 east ward where the care and compassion I received was second to none, absolutely impeccable. My whole experience from being in ICU and 3 east was amazing but my time in HDU was horrific, some of the staff were very unprofessional.
