"111 service"

About: South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / NHS 111

(as a relative),

My dad was diagnosed with asthma about 10 years ago. For the past three years, he felt fine and believed he no longer needed his inhalers, so he stopped his medication and hasn't had an asthma review since. Recently, he's been trying to get an appointment for a check-up but hasn't managed to secure one. Over the past three weeks, he's experienced coughing, wheezing, and increasing discomfort. Desperate, we called 111, explaining our situation. Unfortunately, the response was disappointingly rude and passive-aggressive, with the caller questioning why we had to wait until Christmas to call. It was one of the most disheartening moments I've ever felt toward an NHS service. My father is a man who rarely shows when he needs help, often hiding his problems since I don’t live with him. Today, he asked me to call 111 because he couldn't wait any longer. Hearing him be treated as if we had caused this situation ourselves was heartbreaking. I am deeply upset and frustrated with the service we received on that call.
