"Taking a bed away"

About: Great Oaks Inpatient Unit / Mulberry Ward

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

Ward staff are helpful and caring.

However, taking a bed away from an informal patient whilst on night leave, is counter to patient care. Night leave is not discharge, this takes away patients safety net.

Thank you for taking the time to feed back to us as its important we strive to improve the service we offer. I'm sorry to hear that you were not informed prior to you going on leave that your bed may be used. Unfortunately we have to do this in an emergency if someone is extremely unwell. We will discuss with the team about the fact people should be informed when they go on leave that this may happen. We are sorry for any distress this caused. We wish you well for the future

Regards

Martin (Matron)
