"Cardio Rehab Team"

About: Fife Community Services / Community Cardiac Specialist Service General practices in Fife Victoria Hospital / Cardiology

(as a service user),

I had 2 stents fitted at ERI 6 months ago after experiencing a heart attack then moved back to Victoria Hospital. Once released from hospital with no follow up exam and just a bag of meds, I was literally left to figure out and arrange any follow up myself which meant multiple trips to my GP practice to chase and cajole them to refer me to cardio rehab team.  It would have been more beneficial and less stressful for this to have happened automatically instead of me having to initiate all follow up.

It took a few months to eventually see the cardio nurse who was very kind and listened to my concerns, but I only had 2 visits and was then referred to the cardio rehab team.

Rosie and Lauren could not have been nicer or more accommodating as I was very nervous joining, having never gone to any gym or exercise class before.  I found the class to be just the right pace for me and thoroughly enjoyed it.  I would have liked to have attended for more than 8 weeks or twice a week instead of once only, as it was invaluable in helping me build up my confidence and strength.

Thanks to everyone involved in my recovery to date.

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience. I’m really sorry to hear how difficult and stressful things were for you following your discharge, especially after such a significant event. You should never have been left to organise your own follow‑up care, and I completely understand how frustrating and worrying that must have been. Your comments about this will be shared so that we can look at how to improve the process for others in the future.

I’m glad to hear that once you were seen, the cardiac nurse, Rosie, and Lauren were able to support you so well, and that you felt comfortable and encouraged during the rehab sessions. It’s lovely to know the programme helped rebuild your confidence and strength, and I will make sure your kind words are passed on to the team — they will really appreciate them.

Thank you again for your feedback and for highlighting both the challenges and the positives in your journey. Wishing you continued progress in your recovery
