I was recovering in Special elective unit Antrim Hospital recently. I was feeling very sore, nauseous and confused following difficulties post surgery. I was on oxygen and a blood pressure monitor. The nurse looking after me was Maggie. She was caring and compassionate throughout. Professionally she continually checked on my stats which made me feel safe and secure in her care. She regularly took time to check on me as a person. She listened to me, reassured me, answered my questions and addressed any concerns. At times I was emotional and she comforted me.
I may never see Maggie again but I know other vulnerable patients will. I know they will be looked after in her care to the highest standard.
I have worked 30 years in the Trust and I believe strongly in person centred care. Maggie embodied this. She cared for me, comforted me and reassured me when I was at my most vulnerable. I want to say a big Thankyou to Maggie and believe her contribution to a pressured NHS should be noted and recognised.
