"Interventional Radiology services Lincoln County Hospital"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Nephrology Lincoln County Hospital / Urology Lincoln County Hospital / X-ray and Scans

(as the patient),

As a bladder cancer patient I underwent a radical cystoprostatectomy  some years ago & one of the side effects was some damage to my left kidney which meant I had to have a nephrostomy which requires a change of tubing insertion every 3 months. This procedure is carried out by the IR team & I have now had some 12 such procedures. I also needed a new re-insertion procedure after an occasion where the tube had accidentally been pulled out.

Just to say that these professionals on the IT team are wonderful.

On every occasion they have been kind, patient, re-assuring, humorous & helpful to both my wife & myself. Everything is always explained so I know exactly what is about to happen & what to expect. My wife has vascular dementia & when I have visited IR for procedures I sometimes need to bring her along but she becomes anxious when waiting for me & it isn't ideal for her to be left alone whilst I receive my treatment. However, the staff always arrange someone to sit with her & give her a hot drink / biscuit & talk with her. This is fantastic service for which I am so grateful. They are brilliant at their jobs & I sometimes can't quite believe that the procedure is over as the IR is so skilled & I had not felt anything. The co-ordinator for the department, Mrs. Warrior, also merits a mention as she has always been helpful & pleasant whenever I have had cause to contact the dept. with queries or concerns over the last few years. Brilliant, all of you & thank you so much.

Thank you for taking the time to share such a heartfelt account of your experiences over the past few years. It is clear that you have been on a long and difficult journey following your radical cystoprostatectomy, and your words speak volumes about the ongoing challenges of living with a nephrostomy. We are genuinely grateful that you have chosen to acknowledge the Interventional Radiology (IR) team in such a thoughtful and generous way.

It is wonderful to hear that, on every occasion, the team has treated both you and your wife with kindness, patience and reassurance. Your description of their professionalism—combined with humour, compassion and clear communication—truly reflects the values they strive to uphold. Knowing that you feel fully informed and supported throughout each procedure is incredibly important, especially with something as sensitive and frequent as nephrostomy changes.

Your comments about the support they have offered to your wife are especially moving. The team’s willingness to sit with her, offer a drink and make sure she feels safe while you are receiving treatment is a testament to their understanding and care for the wider needs of patients and their families. We appreciate how much this must mean to you both.

We will also ensure that your gratitude is passed on to Mrs Warrior, who will be touched to know that her help over the years has made a real difference when you have needed advice and reassurance.

Thank you again for sharing such generous praise. Feedback like yours reminds our teams why they do what they do, and it will mean a great deal to everyone in Interventional Radiology.
