"A credit to the profession"

About: New Victoria Hospital / Speech and language therapy

(as a carer),

My husband recently finished a long course of input for swallow rehabilitation from Joanna at Speech Therapy at the Victoria infirmary.  Whilst his recovery was not straightforward or simple, Joanna treated us with such empathy and understanding, dealing with tears and frustration as it became clear that returning to normal food and drinks again wouldn't be possible.  She taught us about the swallow and used pictures to help us both understand, rather than being too medical . Her humour and spark lifted us both out of some difficult moments in this journey, and we looked forward to appointments.   We will be forever thankful to her for her care.

Dear februarych63,

Thank you for sharing such lovely feedback - I'm delighted to learn that the professionalism, sensitivity and compassion shown by Joanna made such a difference, especially at an upsetting point in your recovery. I'll pass your warm words of thanks to the team at the New Victoria Hospital and ask them to ensure Joanna receives it.

Very best wishes,

Lisa Martin,

Patient Experience Public Involvement Manager.

Dear februarych63,

Thank you so much for your lovely comments about Joanna, your Speech & Language Therapist, (SLT), at the New Victoria ACH.

It means a lot to us to receive feedback from people we have worked with and especially to know that our input has been of help at a such a difficult time. I am sorry that your husband's recovery has been long and complex, but it is good to hear that his SLT sessions helped make this easier.

I have shared your comments and gratitude with Joanna, who is indeed a credit to our profession and also with our wider team. Thank you again.

Kind regards

Aileen McEntee
