"Staff was so very patient and gentle with my mum"

About: Tickhill Road Hospital / Older people's healthcare

(as a carer),

Leander was absolutely amazing with my mum who came to see her as her blood sugars were high. Leander was so very patient and gentle with my mum and took the time to both listen to my mums concerns, health issues and lifestyle choices. She then used this information to tailor advice for my mum on how she could improve her blood sugars.

My mum does not speak English so I (her daughter) had to interpret for my mum (which my mum had given full consent to do so). This is the reason why Leander's patience was especially appreciated as she really took the time to speak to both myself as my mums carer and my mum herself to really help my mum change her eating habits and lifestyle. My mum was was elated with how thoughtfully and gently she advised her, it enabled her to fully understand and think through how she could improve.

Leander gave her practice advice and used visual images to show my mum what the right size portions would be. My mum has chronic kidney disease and Leander was able to give her dietary advice that manages both her CKD and diabetes.

It was for these reasons that my mum was able to change her eating habits in a consistent and permanent way. She made some significant changes that were small and manageable but made all the difference. My mum then went back to see Leander after monitoring her blood sugars at home for 6 weeks. They were both overjoyed to see how my mum had made massive improvements within such a short space of time and had turned her blood sugar around completely.

Thank you so much Leander, you have given my mum the ability and confidence to eat well and still enjoy life.

Hi Syeda,

Thank you for taking the time to leave such lovely feedback. It is fantastic to hear about the impact Leander has had on your mum despite the language barrier. Excellent patient care is exactly what we strive for, and I am so glad that your mum has been able to use the advice that Leander has provided to make positive changes to her lifestyle to manage her CKD and diabetes.

All the best to you both for the future,

Dionne
